Resident Evil: Revelations – PlayStation 3
Return to the roots of survival horror with Resident Evil: Revelations for PlayStation 3. Originally developed by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, this chilling entry in the Resident Evil series bridges the narrative gap between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, delivering a tense, atmospheric experience focused on exploration, mystery, and classic horror pacing.
Set shortly after the events of Resident Evil 4, the story follows BSAA agents Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they investigate a shadowy bioterrorist organization planning to contaminate the world’s oceans with a deadly virus. Much of the single-player campaign unfolds aboard a derelict cruise ship, where claustrophobic corridors, limited resources, and grotesque enemies create constant tension. The episodic structure breaks the story into self-contained scenarios that blend puzzle-solving, exploration, and intense combat encounters.
The PlayStation 3 HD version, released in 2013, enhances the original experience with improved visuals, refined lighting, and additional content, including a new difficulty setting. While it does not support the original 3D features of the Nintendo 3DS release, it delivers a more immersive presentation suited for home consoles. The game also includes a multiplayer mode, Raid Mode, which allows players to tackle modified campaign scenarios cooperatively while leveling up characters and weapons.
With its emphasis on atmosphere, episodic storytelling, and classic survival horror mechanics, Resident Evil: Revelations on PlayStation 3 offers a suspense-filled adventure that blends old-school tension with modern design. It remains a notable chapter in the franchise and was followed by Resident Evil: Revelations 2 in 2015.
