RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is a fast-paced, futuristic VR sports shooter developed for PlayStation VR on PlayStation 4. Players step into the cockpit of giant customizable robots—known as "RIGS"—to compete in an adrenaline-fueled combat league that blends first-person shooting with sports-style objectives. Originally a flagship title for the PSVR launch, RIGS offered a unique fusion of tactical mech combat and team-based competitive gameplay.
Set in high-tech arenas, players could pilot RIGS with immersive VR controls, aiming with the headset and using triggers to shoot, boost, and repair their mech. Each RIG had distinct abilities and attributes, while a dynamic power management system allowed players to allocate energy between Turbo (speed), Impact (firepower), and Repair, or unleash Overdrive for short-term advantages.
The game featured multiplayer careers, tournaments, and sponsor systems, letting players customize their mechs and compete in leagues for ranking and rewards. Combining sports-inspired gameplay with tactical combat, players scored goals with a ball while also engaging opponents in explosive battles, creating a high-intensity hybrid experience.
Although the online servers were shut down in 2022, preventing multiplayer access, RIGS: Mechanized Combat League VR remains a standout PSVR experience for its innovative VR mechanics, mech customization, and fast-paced arena action on PlayStation 4.
